Yes, it took a while for you to come out of the coronavirus slump. Today is March 15, 2021 – exactly one year after the first lockdown. A long time in which some have experienced a lot and others little. But we all share a longing for spring, sunshine, encounters and travel. Until then, you will tell us about our village. There’s not much new – Anthering is still the nature village outside Salzburg. And when you say nature, you mean nature.
Now is the time when the farmers go out with their manure spreaders. You know what it smells like. Some people grumble, but it’s important for the growth of the meadows. This has made you curious about what other scents you can detect in the village.
The scents of Anthering
On the way to the village, you pass a stream where watercress grows – rare today, but perfect for potato salad. Its scent is pungent, almost like horseradish. With an “open nose” you can even guess what cold water “smells” like – fresh. The earth next to it smells of life.
The Salzburg oil mill is located on Hangstraße. The scent of linseed and almonds wafts towards you from the outside. The leaves are still rustling along the rocking path and the forest smells slightly musty. The trees are just waking up.
Odors in the town center
On the way to the center, you will first pass the Schmidhuber bakery – time to breathe in the aroma of freshly baked bread. The black bread is popular throughout the country. Christian even makes “Brotzentig”, a special whisky.
Then it’s past the Macherhammer family’s alpacas and on to the herb garden, where the first plants are peeking out of the ground. At the Sperlbauer farm, right opposite the church, you can smell the aroma of meat loaf and bacon. You can get meat, eggs, vegetables, cheese and snacks there.
A few meters further on is the Duftrose – the flower store. Herbs are already waiting for you, and inside you are greeted by a sea of scents: roses, tulips, ranunculus. At the Jedermann hairdresser’s, fine perfume notes spread out immediately.
Continue on towards the way back: at Bella Mare, there’s a little bit of Italy in the village – even in the lockdown, Rudi bakes pizzas and grills delicacies. The municipality and fire department may not smell like much, but without them we would be helpless if there was a fire.
Unfortunately, the Hotel Ammerhauser is closed for a long time. How much we look forward to the smell of coffee in the garden, balmy evenings with music and good food. These scents are unforgettable.
You see: after 45 minutes on the road, you can already “smell” so much.
LANDLUFT my ass!!! You like EVERYTHING – and soon, please.
