The scent of Anthering, the natural village near Salzburg

Today the elf takes you on a tour of Anthering. She wanders through the herb garden, breathes in the scent of aniseed and leafs through the stories from the herb garden. Afterwards, she will take you to the new moor and herb experience world of the SonnenMoor company, where there is a lot to discover. Would you like to accompany her on her tour? She cordially invites you to do so – read for yourself:

Today I was able to get to know Anthering through my nose in the truest sense of the word.

This August “captivates” with a really “stinging” sun. Those who can, spend every free minute at the nearby Salzkammergut lakes or in the lake district right on the doorstep. Our Anthering swimming pool also invites you to refresh yourself.

Harvest time in the Anthering herb garden
But August is also harvest time in the herb garden. Yes, we have one of these in the village – and what a herb garden! You are greeted by fragrant roses as soon as you enter. The path leads invitingly past insect houses to the small biotope. Countless herbs line the path. Each herb is labeled with its name and purpose. Almost every step you take is accompanied by a different scent. I find the ANIS fragrance particularly interesting. So refreshing on these hot days. Until today, I didn’t know that a fragrance can also cool you down. Aniseed can do that!

I am amazed and delighted by this diversity. A light breeze makes the leaves of the birch tree – I almost want to say – resound. It’s so calming, I sit down on the bench and listen. When I close my eyes, it’s like meditation – just in between. It doesn’t take that long – and yet it’s so healing and completely free.

At first I thought – oh, too bad today the herb garden isn’t as colorful as in spring. But far from it. The further I walk, the more flowers I notice. Small and often inconspicuous, they stand there radiantly and want to assert themselves in all the green. And there is green here in every imaginable color. Claude Monet would have been delighted here.

Stories from the herb garden
And the cover of “Stories from the herb garden” – a book published for the anniversary year – looks like a beautiful painting by Monet. Enchanting, inviting and refreshing. The book will be available on August 15, 2018 at the herb consecration festival, which takes place every year on this Marian feast day.

SonnenMoor opens a new moor and herb experience world in Anthering
Herbs can be found in Anthering, but not only here in the herb garden. As soon as you enter the town from Salzburg, you are greeted by a SUN, which stands above and for the SonnenMoor company. The new world of experience and the grocery store with moor and herbal products opened a few days ago. I was allowed to have a look around today.

As soon as you enter the building, you feel at home. Is it the warm welcome from Theresa, the scent of herbs, the warm, woody atmosphere, the extremely tasteful furnishings or the wide range of products on offer?

In any case, there is an enormous amount to see. The history of the SonnenMoor company is presented in two huge chronicles. I could leaf through them for hours. An idea grew into – you could almost say – an empire.

Founded in 1972 by Anna and Franz Fink, the company was already producing herbal extracts and moor pressings. Back then in the kitchen and garage. 11 years later, their son Siegfried Fink took over the business and has never regretted it, as he says.

I am impressed by this wealth of ideas, the energy and strength, this power from above (sun) and below (moor).

This little village of Anthering has so much to offer – so I’m delighted if my articles make you curious!

See you soon, your elf!
